A MACHINE THAT BLEEDS PATTERN AND RHYTHM

The purpose of this self-portrait was to design a set of six 7x7 inch squares to be joined together to create a hanging folded book. The squares are double sided, so the goal was to utilize the twelve surfaces we had to work with in order to convey a concept of important to us. I believe that all humans are machines of pattern and rhythm in both an anatomical sense and in regards to the actions we preform. This concept is especially relevant to artists and graphic designers. We are constantly creating patterns and rhythms in our work, from our brush strokes to our magazine layouts. While in an anatomical sense, our bodies are just complex systems of rhythms and patterns. Our muscles, digestive functions, and cells are just a few examples of this concept.
